The River Valley and the Arts
Meewasin trails, the modern art museum on the riverbank, and the museums and stages that keep Saskatoon culture running year-round.
The Meewasin trail network
The Meewasin Valley Authority looks after the river valley that splits the city, and its trails are the best free thing Saskatoon has going. Paved paths follow both banks past parks, the university and downtown. Walk, run or bike, and expect the scenery to change completely with the seasons.
Museums worth the trip
Remai Modern sits on the riverbank downtown and anchors the city's art scene. The Western Development Museum's Saskatoon branch tells the story of the province's settlement years. Wanuskewin Heritage Park, just north of the city, shares Northern Plains Indigenous culture and history on its own grounds.
Live stages year-round
Persephone Theatre stages professional productions in the Remai Arts Centre downtown. The Broadway Theatre, in the middle of Broadway Avenue in Nutana, hosts film and live acts in a heritage room that has been part of the street for decades. Between them and the summer festival season, you can catch something live most months of the year.
